The NOW Home
was officially opened on 12 August 2005,
before a gathering of environmentalists, builders,
architects, shareholder representatives and representatives
from local and central government, tertiary institutes and
business.
“The environmentally sustainable home people want - and
can afford - to live in.” The
NOW Home
is the first of Beacon Pathway’s collaborative, action-based
research projects aiming to find affordable ways of
improving the sustainability of all New Zealand homes. The
NOW Home differs from previous eco or social housing
projects in that it aims to find a balance between
environmental, social and economic aims.
Where is the NOW Home?
The NOW Home is located in Olympic Place, New Lynn,
Waitakere City.
Beacon Pathway
The NOW Home was designed and built by Beacon Pathway Ltd, a
collaborative research organisation funded by key industry
organisations and the Foundation for Research Science and
Technology. The Waitakere City Council is one of Beacon’s five shareholders. The others are Scion (formerly Forest
Research), Building Research, Fletcher Building and New
Zealand Steel.
