Animal Pests
Waitakere's native plants and animals are at risk from
destruction by animal pests.
Some animals, such as possums and pigs, eat native plants
and seedlings which stops the bush from regenerating itself.
Other animals, such as rats and stoats eat native animals
including our birds and reptiles.
There are some Waitakere plants and animal species that
are considered rare and threatened because of predation by
these animal pests.
Pest animal identification and
control
The Auckland Regional Council has a great
website to help you
identify your animal pests and how to control them.
